Why simplify a GPX?

Watches and phones log a point every second, so a long route can carry tens of thousands of points and weigh several megabytes — too heavy for some GPS devices, route planners and upload limits. The cleaner uses the Ramer-Douglas-Peucker algorithm to drop points that don't change the shape of the line, so the route looks identical but the file is a fraction of the size.

Remove pauses and smooth elevation

Stopped at a junction or a coffee break? Those clustered points add weight and mess up stats. Removing pauses drops them. Smoothing averages out the jagged altitude readings GPS units are prone to, for a cleaner elevation profile.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reduce the size of a GPX file?

Raise the simplify tolerance. It removes redundant points with the Ramer-Douglas-Peucker algorithm without changing the shape of your route.

Will simplifying change my route?

No. The line keeps its shape. You control how aggressive the simplification is and you see the before and after live on the map.

Can it remove pauses and smooth elevation?

Yes, both are optional toggles, handy for cleaning up a noisy recording.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser and your file is never sent anywhere.
